There are actual controls, not just platitudes.
The blueprint also talks about building safety into product flows rather than treating it as cleanup after problems emerge. The document invites collaboration with parents, experts, and teens, signaling that durable protections require continual iteration.
I'm genuinely surprised. Most AI companies treat teen safety as a PR problem to manage, not a design challenge to solve. OpenAI seems to be actually thinking through the implications here.
Why This Matters More Than You Think
Millions of teenagers are using ChatGPT for homework help, creative projects, and general browsing. Some of that usage is productive. Some of it is... let's say, less supervised than it should be. The message to product teams is direct: build safety into flows, not as a cleanup layer after incidents, and default to guardrails that reduce exposure to harmful content.
